CANAL DEL DIQUE, COLOMBIA
MANGROVE IN EMERGENCY
HONORABLE MENTIONII EDITION ISARCH AWARDS
It is a process of cooperation between the scientific community and the local population for conservation and self Mangrove.
The project is located in the Sub region Canal del Dique, in the Colombian Caribbean. It is affected by the floods of 2010, due to the La Nina phenomenon region. Not coincidentally, parallel to this problem the main unit of landscape throughout the region, mangroves, are in the process of deforestation as excessive and aggressive exploitation.
Mangroves are an economic engine for the local population, since they are one of the most productive ecosystems in the world.
Furthermore, as some are natural barriers that protect and cushion the effects of hydrometeorological phenomena such as hurricanes and floods.
A process of interventions over time among the productive population of mangrove and a scientific community is proposed.
The parts of the program to be built from recycled boats and traditional fishing canoes used throughout the catchment area of the river Magdalena. A substantive and constructive sequence will occur from inside the mangrove to the edge of the swamp, where a self capsules and energy technology will support the parts of the roots.
